Morris Levy arrived in San Francisco, after coming to the U.S. from Posen, Prussia in the early 1850s. In 1859, Morris and his wife, Julia Hecht, had a son, Meyer. Meyer went into the jewelry business and married Jenne (or Jennie) Feder, a young dressmaker, in 1894. Meyer and Jenne's daughter, Miriam (b. 1895), married David Pudlin and moved to Los Angeles. David Pudlin was the son of Jacob Pudlin, a pioneer jeweler, and David spent over fifty years as a wholesale jeweler. In time, he became president of the William E. Phillips Company in Los Angeles.
